New Project: Montage Non Linear Video Editor

I've been waiting a long time for a good, simple and easy to use Non Linear Video Editor (NLVE) to emerge on Linux.  Every time I have to edit a small home video from miniDV footage on Linux, I have to fight with Kino and it's unfriendly interface. Yes, Kino does the job but it's painful.  I've tried other Open Source NLVE also with mitigate success (KDEnlive, Cinerella, etc.)

There is nothing out there that "scratch my itch": I need a consumer level NLVE on Linux to simply do the following steps:

Qt 4.5 is officially released under LGPL

First of all: Thank you Nokia!  This is a great gift to the Open Source community!

For those who don't know Qt, Qt is a complete and portable GUI framework.  It is written in C++ but many bindings for other language are available (notably for Java, Ruby and Python). You can read more about Qt on Nokia's website.

Version 1.3 of the CentOS 5.2 Minimal VA is available

The CentOS 5 VA is a popular download from Symbiosoft.net.  So, I've decided to resume work on this Virtual Appliance.  This release feature many updates.

Go to the project page to download this virtual appliance.

Enjoy!

Version 1.6 of Ubuntu 8.04 Server Minimal Installation VA is available!

I updated several package and the Linux Kernel also.  Consult the project page for more details.

Which Ubuntu derivative would you like the most to be on a multiboot DVD?

Ubuntu Development Environment Script

The Ubuntu Developement Environment script is a shell script that setup a development environment for Ubuntu and its derivatives (Kubuntu, Xubuntu, etc.) using a GUI dialog (or console, using -n option).  Originally, I created that script to keep track of my development environment between each update of Ubuntu (and because I like to format my hard drive each time).  I provide this script with the hope it would be useful to someone else.

MainActor repackaged to work on Ubuntu 8.04/8.10

I read many reports on different forums of people failing to install MainActor package on the latest version of Ubuntu. The problem here is that MainConcept doesn't support MainActor anymore, so those, like me, who bought a copy of MainActor 5.5 are left out in the cold...

Portable Applications

A portable application, or portable app for short, is a software program that does not require any kind of formal installation onto a computer's permanent storage device to be executed, and can be stored on a removable storage device (such as a USB flash drive, flash card) enabling it to be used on multiple computers.

Symbiosoft's portable apps are designed specifically for the PortableApps.com Launcher

Virtual Appliances

A virtual appliance is a minimalist virtual machine image designed to run under some sort of virtualization technology (like VMware Workstation, Citrix XenServer, VirtualBox or many others).

Virtual appliances are a subset of the broader class of software appliances. Like software appliances, virtual appliances are aimed to eliminate the installation, configuration and maintenance costs associated with running complex stacks of software.
